A Principled Account of Malagasy Deverbal Nouns

چکیده
However, there is a problem with such an analysis in that there is a regular paradigmatic gap in the distribution of f-. Malagasy verbs have three forms, here referred to as Actor Topic (AT), Circumstantial Topic (CT), and Theme Topic (TT); the form of the verb determines which argument in the clause appears in the sentence-final subject position. Of the three forms, AT and CT freely accept f-nominalization (shown in 2a'-b'), whereas TT forms categorically disallow f-nominalizaion.

Building Disambiguation System for Compound Noun Analysis Based on Lexical Conceptual Structure
In this paper, we propose a principled approach for disambiguating relations between constituent words of compound nouns whose heads are deverbal nouns, using the framework of lexical conceptual structure. The aim of this research is to reveal the complete set of lexical factor and disambiguation rules needed for application. The results of experiment for Japanese deverbal compounds and nominal...
متن کاملDeverbal Compound Noun Analysis Based on Lexical Conceptual Structure
This paper proposes a principled approach for analysis of semantic relations between constituents in compound nouns based on lexical semantic structure. One of the difficulties of compound noun analysis is that the mechanisms governing the decision system of semantic relations and the representation method of semantic relations associated with lexical and contextual meaning are not obvious. The...
متن کاملBuilding a Lexicon of French Deverbal Nouns from a Semantically Annotated Corpus
The ongoing project Nomage aims at describing the aspectual properties of deverbal nouns in an empirical way. It is centered on the development of two resources: a semantically annotated corpus of deverbal nouns, and an electronic lexicon. They are both presented in this paper, and emphasize how the semantic annotations of the corpus allow the lexicographic description of deverbal nouns to be v...
متن کاملNominalization in Aphasia: a Case Study
BACKGROUND AND CASE HISTORY In Linguistics deverbal nominals are defined as nouns displaying some verbal properties. The nature of nominalization has been long debated and since Lees (1960) and Chomsky (1970) a syntactic account has been opposed to a lexical-semantic one. Importantly, both the accounts agree in that deverbal nouns are not a homogeneous class: according to Grimshaw (1990) and Al...
متن کاملDeverbal Nouns in Czech Light Verb Constructions
In this paper, we provide a well-founded description of Czech deverbal nouns in both nominal and verbal structures (light verb constructions), based on a complex interaction between the lexicon and the grammar. We show that light verb constructions result from a regular syntactic operation. We introduce two interlinked valency lexicons, NomVallex and VALLEX , demonstrating how to minimize the s...
